We're working with a well-established manufacturing business in the Scottish Borders that is looking to strengthen its Supply Chain team with the appointment of a Buyer / Senior Buyer. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative business where you'll play a key role in ensuring materials are available to support production while driving efficiencies across planning, purchasing and inventory management.
The Role
You'll be responsible for planning and procuring raw materials, components and services to ensure production runs smoothly and customer demand is met. Working closely with production, sales, finance and engineering teams, you'll balance inventory, manage supplier relationships and identify opportunities to improve supply chain performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain material plans based on customer demand, forecasts and inventory levels.
- Manage purchase orders from placement through to delivery.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and monitor supplier performance.
- Track delivery schedules to ensure continuity of supply.
- Work with ERP/MRP systems to maintain accurate planning data.
- Optimise inventory levels while maintaining excellent service levels.
- Support cost reduction and lead time improvement initiatives.
- Resolve supplier issues relating to quality, pricing and delivery.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support production schedules and new product introductions.
- Monitor key supply chain performance metrics including supplier OTIF, inventory turns and overdue invoices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and quality management processes.
About You
- Around 3+ years' experience within a purchasing or supply chain role in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems (SAP experience would be advantageous).
- Strong supplier management and negotiation skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work across multiple business functions.
- CIPS Level 4 (or working towards) is desirable, as is a relevant degree, although equivalent experience will also be considered.
