Delighted to be working exclusively with our well-established, growing manufacturing client based in Edinburgh in their search for an experienced Materials Manager.
This pivotal role will ensure that strategic material planning processes are in place to enable operational and production continuity. The successful candidate will take a coordinating lead, working closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure materials are available to meet production requirements efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Materials Team, including training and development plans.
- Provide daily and monthly KPIs to demonstrate process control and compliance.
- Ensure MRP outputs are actioned in real-time and lead bi-annual full physical inventory counts.
- Set minimum stock levels to meet forecast demand, satisfy OTIF, and achieve service level agreements while considering cost.
- Take ownership of material planning issues, including over/under delivery, and manage follow-up actions, particularly where material shortages affect production.
- Manage inventory risk and implement contingency plans.
- Identify and recommend solutions to overcome supply challenges, ensuring operational risks are mitigated.
- Support NPI processes to ensure successful product launches.
- Design, develop, and implement flexible solutions to improve business efficiency, drive process improvements, and add value.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
- Maintain and develop Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system data, resolving any issues and implementing system enhancements.
- Ensure the integrity of inventory master data and develop inventory control strategies for both manufacturing and 3PL providers.
- Lead PFEP initiatives, including regular obsolescence reviews and a robust run-out process to minimise waste.
Person Specification:
- Significant experience in a material planning role, managing the smooth supply of materials to meet production requirements and budget.
- Proven people management experience.
- Strong IT systems knowledge, including advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems or similar.
- Demonstrable success delivering results through cross-functional collaboration.
- Knowledge of lean techniques is advantageous.
