We’re searching for a Controls Engineer with real depth—someone who knows their way around PLC systems, produces bulletproof technical documentation, and can step into complex engineering environments with confidence. This position includes occasional travel for commissioning, sea trials, and fault-finding support.
Key Responsibilities
• Review customer technical requirements and ensure solutions align
• Produce and maintain high-quality documentation, including:
– drawings
– specifications
– engineering BOMs
– test procedures
– O&M manuals
– project technical documentation
• Program and configure Siemens PLCs in line with project needs
• Develop and test new designs and prototypes
• Troubleshoot issues across design, programming and commissioning stages
• Conduct hazard/risk assessments and system testing to ensure compliance and reliability
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and project engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Provide technical support to internal teams and external customers
• Deliver work to agreed timescales and quality standards
• Keep up to speed with industry developments and emerging automation technologies
• Ensure full compliance with company QHS&E and Business Management systems
Essential Skills & Qualifications
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related discipline (equivalent experience considered)
• Strong proficiency in Siemens PLC programming and configuration
• Hands-on experience producing specifications, electrical drawings and wiring diagrams
• Solid understanding of electrical systems, circuit diagrams and fault-finding
• Competent user of CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent)
• Familiarity with IEC, UL, ISO and other relevant standards
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Self-motivated, clear communicator and effective team player
• Proficient in MS Office
Desirable Skills
• Experience with motion control systems and drives
• Background in hydro-mechanical systems
• Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (PROFIBUS, MODBUS, etc.)
• Commissioning or site-based controls experience
• Experience producing documentation for naval projects
• Understanding of marine systems and regulations
• Awareness of environmental testing requirements
