We are currently supporting a leading manufacturing business in the search for a Buyer to join their growing team.
You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of suppliers and commodities, ensuring material availability aligns with demand while maintaining optimal inventory levels. The role requires close collaboration with suppliers and internal teams to ensure on-time delivery, accurate planning data, and proactive risk management across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate MRP output reports into clear supplier schedules, ensuring alignment with demand, lead times, and inventory targets.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery performance through effective communication and expediting.
- Proactively identify and manage material shortage risks, ensuring issues are escalated and communicated internally.
- Maintain accuracy of ERP system data including lead times, minimum order quantities, costs, and planning parameters.
- Monitor inbound deliveries to ensure suppliers are shipping in line with agreed schedules.
- Coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) with the supply base to minimise obsolescence and cost.
- Manage inventory performance, working towards stock targets while reducing excess and obsolete materials.
- Monitor and develop supplier performance through the supplier scorecard process, supporting continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
- Support internal projects and improvement initiatives across the supply chain function.
- Contribute to and support change management activities within the team and wider business.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in Supply Chain, Materials Planning, or Purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of MRP / ERP systems.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and delivery performance
- Ability to identify risks and manage material shortages proactively.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive mindset with an interest in continuous improvement.
